How patients pay for healthcare is changing…

Over the past few years we have seen a significant increase in high deductible insurance plans because of the ACA health exchanges. In these plans patients are often responsible for paying a large portion of the bill before the insurance kicks-in, sometimes the patient can be responsible for upwards of $5,000 depending on their plan. Many surgeon’s offices are requesting that patients pay that money up front before their surgery. This is done for obvious reasons. The point is that healthcare insurance is changing. More and more patients are having to pay for the services provided not the insurance company. This will force all of us to be thoughtful about how we spend our healthcare dollars.
